I live in Peterborough and I don’t know of any shops that sell them let alone any cheap ones. I am a lover of natural beeswax candles but they are costly and I am not loaded. I would appreciate your help guys. Thanks

Make your own natural lip balm is easier than you might think. It is also good for your budget to buy commercial products – and you get the benefit know exactly what they are putting into your mouth. Add the healing powers of aromatherapy and essential oils have a winner!
Many commercial lip balm are made with petroleum products. Petroleum products have been banned from cosmetics in many countries because they contain impurities that can cause cancer and other health problems.
In addition, commercial lip balms and lotions are often designed so that once the initial hydration effect has disappeared, actually dry your skin (or lips) you have to keep applying the product (which makes you buy more – good for sales.)
On the other hand, all natural plant based skin and lips provide real products, healthy hydration that no poison or dry the skin. You can use a variety oils and butters to make your own lip balm, and you can even smell with essential oils for a little more Pizzaz (not to mention the strengthening of his powers healing!)
Here is a very basic three-ingredient recipe for lip balm to start.
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or sweet almond oil
- 1 tablespoon grated beeswax (you can use a candle of pure beeswax for this)
- 1 capsule of vitamin E (400 IU)
Instructions:
- Heat the oil and wax in a cup heat resistant (as heavy glass measuring cup.) Make a hole in the vitamin E capsule and squeeze the liquid to the mixture of oil and wax.
- Place heat-proof container in a pot of water on the stove and heat over low heat until the wax just melts. Immediately remove from heat.
- Pour the liquid into a small screw jar lid or lip balm jar or tube. Allow to cool (solidify) before use.

Lip Balm Base:
- Substitute 1 tablespoon safflower oil to 1 tablespoon beeswax.
- Using unrefined coconut oil instead of olive oil.
- Add 1 / 2 teaspoon vegetable glycerin extra moisture.
Aromatherapy Essential Oils:
- Add 2 drops of lavender essential oil to soothe irritation.
- Try 2 drops of essential oil peppermint for a natural tingling freshness.
- Add 2 drops of vanilla essential oil for a delicious sweet flavor.
A note on essential oils: Be careful that the oils used in aromatherapy lip balm products and skin care – some may irritate the skin (as cinnamon and thyme.) Do your research before experimenting!
