What do (some) hippies have against soap?

Sorry to generalize (that’s why I added the SOME in brackets)…but y’know who I mean…the kids with the dreads and the b.o. They’re intelligent and creative. Heck, they even make their own toiletries using natural ingredients…so why aren’t they bathing? Is it a water preservation thing? Is it just that natural ingredients aren’t doing the job well enough? Is it activism of some kind? I’m just really confused by this.

I don’t think that it is that people do not want to use soap or for that matter bathe, just that they do not want anybody telling them what to do. People from that generation typically do just the opposite of everyone else, they move to the beat of their own drummer so to speak.
